Family Words
I was listening to a local call in show yesterday and there was this guy on who was talking about "family words". These are words or phrases that your family has invented or that caught on because of a situation that made a lasting impression. It reminded me of a favorite family word that we have been using since I was a kid that I still use today with my wife.
My little sister had this annoying, controlling friend that over time had driven her so nuts that she didn't want to play with her anymore. She hadn't told this to her friend, however and was invited to the girl's birthday party. A week before the party, my sister told the girl she wasn't going to be able to make it to the party and the girl explained that her mom had already bought party hats for everyone attending. My sister told her she was sorry, but that she really couldn't go. Then, after a pause and with a grimace on her face the girl said, "Well, that was a waste of a hat!".
Since then, any situation that turns into a waste of time or a wasted trip it is referred to as a "waste of a hat".
The last time I said that was when I had worked on a file at work for a half hour with out saving it and the power went out. That was a major waste of a hat.
I hope this post hasn't been a waste of a hat for you!
Please share your family words!

Oh my goodness ! I just remembered an excellent one from growing up!. . . my brother and stepdad steve didn't always hit it off- Steve was much more light hearted about it than my brother. One day Steve was just buggin tony and tony stormed off to the bathroom. And after several minutes Steve asked him what he was doing in there and Tony yelled: I'M TAKING A BIG STEVE!
so, that one comes up every once in a while now. Sometimes the name changes, to a big tony- but if your serious about it your taking a big steve!!
